With sadness, the Department announces the passing of Dave Hill on Sunday January 19, 2014. A celebration of his life and career at the University will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday January 25, 2014, at the CU Stadium Club at Folsom Field.
Dave was an avid and outspoken supporter of geographic education throughout his accomplished career. In the 1980’s, Dave co-founded the Colorado Geographic Alliance and the Center for Geographic Education in the Geography Department at CU Boulder, making Colorado one of the original seven states to join the National Geographic Society’s Geographic Alliance Network.
After graduating from CU with a major in geography in 1954, Dave continued his studies in geography, earning a master’s from CU in 1958 and a Ph.D. in Latin American geography from the University of Chicago in 1964. Dave became a geography faculty member at CU Boulder in 1968, where he spent his entire successful career, including serving as department chair from 1982-1984. Dave retired as a full professor in 1999, and subsequently became Emeritus Faculty.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the A. David Hill Scholarship Fund to assist CU undergraduates in geography and continue Dave’s legacy in geography.
